Wow Bar co-owner Alyssa Caplan emailed me a few weeks ago. She'd found my Regulars page on Twin Cities Live and thought since I was a St. Paul girl, and her business was new to St. Paul, we should meet. She was so right.
Alyssa owns Wow Bar along with her mom and sister. You guys know what a sucker I am for locally-owned businesses. And all-female owned businesses? Icing on the cake. The trio opened Wow Bar's first location in Edina back in 2012, and just recently opened their second boutique on historic Grand Avenue in St. Paul, right across the street from The Lexington.
Blow-out bars swept the country a few years ago, harkening back to a time in the not-so distant past when grandmothers and southern belles had standing appointments to have their hair washed, dried and styled - a.k.a. blown out. Being neither a grandmother or a southern belle, I'd never had a blow out that didn't occur after getting my hair cut and colored. You know how your hair looks and feels amazing and the style lasts SO much longer after your stylist does your hair? That's exactly what Wow Bar offers - minus the time and cost of getting your hair cut and colored beforehand.
I had a wonderful, relaxing, luxe experience at Wow Bar and really enjoyed spending time with Alyssa and her team. They all seemed to genuinely love what Wow Bar is bringing to the Twin Cities - and so did I.
What a Wow Bar blow-out is:
- Relaxing - from the products used on your hair to the beautiful, chic decor I felt 100% relaxed and cared for while I was there.
- Affordable - although Alyssa very kindly offered me a free blowout and makeup application so I could tell you about it, the cost for a signature blowout is $35. Cheaper than a massage, same as a pedicure, entirely unique on the glam scale.
- Long-lasting - I got a good 5 days out of my blow out. Yep, my hair looked amazing for 5 days with a little dry shampoo and minor curling iron touchups.
Blow-outs at Wow Bar are officially my new treat to myself. Although my first experience there was complimentary, I will go back and will be more than happy to fork over $35 in exchange for a little bounce in my step and my hair after I leave.
